PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE
Single Engine Land (Part 61)
The Private Pilot may fly a single engine airplane for pleasure or for personal business. The Private Pilot may carry passengers and share some flight expenses but cannot fly for full compensation. A Private Pilot Certificate is your starting point. No prior flight experience is required.
APPROXIMATE TOTAL COST: $5,500.00*
APPROXIMATE COMPLETION TIME: 12-16 WEEKS
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be at least 17 years of age. Age 16 to Solo. (While the ages mentioned here are correct, we feel it important to let parents of potential students know that your child can begin flight training as early as 14 years old. This however does not allow them to solo before their 16th birthday or sit for their private pilot exam before their 17th birthday.)
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Receive at least a 3rd class Medical.
- Complete at least 40 hours of flight time.
- 20 hours of Dual Instruction (Student with Instructor)
- 10 hours of Solo Practice (Student flying alone-at least 5 hours of this must be cross country flying, which is to a point at least 50 nm away from where you took off.)
- 3 hours of night flight
- 3 hours of basic instrument flight
- Pass an FAA Private Pilot Written Exam (60 multiple choice questions), and the FAA oral and practical exams.

The exact cost of your flight training cannot be predicted beforehand. The cost of flight training depends on many factors including type and size of airplane, how often you fly, and the time and dedication you spend on studying academic books.
